A little late with the reply but Cap went to China and had his guns built to his specs. The guns sold by him are very strong and have forged receivers making them stronger than the real 1887. What you have to watch for is that some models of the guns got to this country with cast receivers and are very weak and cheaply put together. As long as you buy the real IAC models you are in good shape. This gun has become my favorite CAS gun

My wife has been shooting an 1887 CWSE "Top Gun" 18" Coyote Cap Special for over two years now and loves it. He even set it up for left handed eject for her. You can't baby it and it requires either Winchester AA or Remington SXS shotshell to work properly. None of the cheap stuff. She prefers the Nitros herself in 71/2" for Cowboy Action.
Let me say that I really enjoy my 87 by Coyote Cap. He recommends you only shoot AA hulls from his guns but I have found that you can shoot many different hulls with 100% reliability. If you measure the rim of a AA you will find that it is around .005 in thickness as are the STS hulls by Remington. The Fioochi paper and Federal paper both have this same rim thickness and they also work well in the Cap shotguns. Just stay away from the cheap promo hulls with the aluminum case heads. In other words you are not limited at all in using different shells you just have to use good ones. Later David

Duke, I have been away for a while and did not know about your question. The brass shells will cycle fine, at least out of mine. The problem comes in loading if you have a Cap model gun. He sets his up for the drop two loading. This is very fast when done correctly. You just drop two shells at the same time into the receiver. When you close the lever one goes into the chamber and the other into the magazine. The brass shells are so much heavier that they cause the drop two set up to go below the magazine and jamb the gun. If you go very slow and guide them in they work. The name of the game in CAS is speed and therfore you lose on that point. They do how ever give you a bunch of Style points.
